Department Description


Our client's engineering and support services groups provide engineering and design and project management services to the oil and gas industry. We specialize in arctic engineering, facilities engineering and design (for brown and green fields), and pipeline engineering. We serve the drilling and upstream sectors of the energy industry, for onshore and offshore field development projects from inception to completion. We provide engineering services for both large-scale projects and small conventional oil and gas projects.

Brief Posting Description


The Engineer is responsible for preparing technical deliverables for all project phases following established engineering principles, procedures, and criteria in a single or multidiscipline environment. This position provides discipline engineering expertise, develops design drawings, performs engineering calculations, and ensures deliverables conform to customer documents, field philosophy, and applicable code and industry standard requirements. This position reports to the discipline lead engineer.

Detailed Description



Review engineering design drawings and ensure conformance to client documents, field philosophy, and applicable code and industry standard requirements. Prepare system specifications, MTOs, and purchase requisitions. Ability to provide quality review on engineering calculations. Develop and write engineering scopes of work and project change requests. Prepare estimates for all project phases. Develop and review schedules for assigned projects. Apply standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Duties include gathering and recording information for writing specifications and preparing technical reports. Report project performance using earned value terms. Review vendor bids to ensure compliance with project design specifications. Coordinate and perform quality control of work prepared by designers. Ability to prepare engineering packages from inception to as-builts. Evaluate field problems and provide solutions. Develop project completion documents. Senior engineers will perform duties as discipline leads and will supervise and mentor lower-level engineers.
Must be able to travel to remote locations as required. Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements



Experience in all phases of petrochemical instrument and controls engineering. Ability to perform instrument calculations on process control instruments and work within ISA/IEC standards. Experience in arctic oil fields, gas/oil separation plants, pipeline facilities, gathering stations, and processing plants desired. Experience in design and installation of control systems with DCS, PLC, and SIS control logic programming. Experience in completing SIL verification. Effective written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate clearly with all disciplines and remote personnel required. Experience coordinating with client equipment documentation systems. Excellent mathematical, problem-solving, communication, organizational, and planning skills. Experience writing and training field personnel on standard operating procedures. Experience with standard instrument and controls engineering and Microsoft office software.
Responsibilities include development of P&IDs, control philosophy and familiar with safety instrumented systems (SIS); develop engineering and construction scopes of work, manhour budgets, cost estimates and staffing requirements; field instrumentation selection and sizing, familiar with instrument valve and PSV calculations, preparation of instrument data sheets and specifications, develop cause & effect charts and control narratives; lead and direct the engineering and production of design drawing packages; perform quality checks and verification of compliance to standards for instrument and control system specifications; create material requisitions and approve of bid tabulations; construction support and field startup assistance may be required.

Additional Details


Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or associated discipline. Experience in the oil and gas industry and in the arctic environment preferred.
Must be proficient in Windows XP, MS Word and MS Excel. Practical field construction experience in Arctic Oil Field, gas/oil separation plants, pipeline facilities, gathering station and processing plants will be preferred.


Mid Level: Two to ten years experience with three in the oil and gas industry. Professional engineer registration(PE) in the State of Alaska or the ability to register within one year is required. At least 2-5 years experience in the design and installation of instrument and control systems.

Senior Level: Minimum of ten years experience with five in the oil and gas industry. Professional engineer(PE) registration in the State of Alaska or the ability to register within one year is required. Supervisory experience is a plus.
